D38999 Fiber Optic / Hybrid Cable Assemblies

Amphenol Fiber Systems International (AFSI) designs and manufactures world class harsh environment fiber optic connectors and cable assemblies for the military and aerospace markets. Cable assemblies built with D38999 connectors, used in military, avionics, and industrial applications, are a cornerstone offering in our industry leading product line, along with TFOCA-II®, M28876 and expanded beam cable assemblies.

The D38999 circular connector series is designed for harsh environments, particularly those with wide temperature ranges and high mechanical vibrations. This electrical connector is adapted for fiber optics by using M29504/4 and /5 termini. These termini fit into any size 16 contact cavity.

Precise alignment is critical to fiber optic connectors. The tightly toleranced fiber optic D38999 connectors ensure precise alignment with precision machined polarization keys and keyways which reduce radial misalignment. This precision yields superior optical performance when compared to standard D38999 connectors. Tight tolerance D38999 connectors also have a positive bottoming surface and conductive surface plating, assuring exceptional EMI/RFI performance.

All D38999 connectors feature a non-conductive insert making this a great connector choice when optical fibers and electrical wires must be used in the same connector. The D38999 series offers a wide range of shell sizes, backshells and insert patterns. Standard contacts and termini are available making any design simple and cost-effective.

AFSI’s goal is to exceed customer requirements with every cable assembly. AFSI frequently assists customers in designing and building custom cable assemblies. Additionally, AFSI has over 15 years of experience in building to customer prints. Our highly skilled technicians are trained to a wide variety of industry standard procedures critical to manufacturing harsh environment fiber optic cable assemblies. All AFSI cable assemblies are manufactured by expert technicians in our state-of-the-art, AS9100 certified facility. Thermometrics Dual Solar Sensor

The Dual Solar Sensor uses two photo diode cells to measure the intensity of the light that enters into the cabin of the vehicle. It then takes this information and feeds it back to the automatic temperature control (ATC) unit of the vehicle's air conditioning system. The air temperatures of the driver's side and passenger side are then automatically adjusted up or down depending upon the amount of light entering both sides of the vehicle. The sensor is mounted on the IP panel near the vehicle's front window.

Dualok

Dualok is an enhanced anti-decoupling mechanism that can be used on virtually any cylindrical plug connector and backshell. The Dualok Interconnect System greatly improves electrical performance in harsh environments while providing a size and weight savings when compared to standard connectors in the same class. Dualok technology is applied to the plug connector and backshell only and will mate with standard receptacles.

  • Better shell-to-shell conductivity
  • Assures EMI protection at high frequencies
  • Extreme vibration capabilities at wide temperature range
  • Enhanced corrosion protection with composite materials
  • Lightweight, hybrid composite/metal design
  • Smaller footprint/space savings
Thermometrics E-Stat Controller

The E-stat Controller is used in automobile air conditions to prevent the evaporator core from freezing. The NTC probe senses the temperature of the air as it passes through the evaporator core. An electronic control circuit interprets the change in resistance of the thermistor to indicate when the evaporator core is near freezing. The control circuit then provides an output to disengage the compressor clutch, allowing the evaporator core to warm. When the air temperature of the evaporator core warms up, the circuit reactivates the clutch allowing the evaporator to cool.
